Idea: Google as a survey tool

RH:
1. Google search [and Yahoo, Bing, searches, too] can be used as an instant, pretty accurate, survey tool to survey what the world thinks, on pretty much ANY topic, given that the internet is an unlimited fount of thoughts, on every conceivable and even inconceivable, subject.

2. You only need to frame the Search Phrase in such a way as to elicit the most accurate answers, [as always when using any search engine]. A poorly constructed Search Phrase will give inaccurate, even wrong, answers, so beware. For example, to use a topical example, suppose I want to find out whether the world, or to be more accurate, the Internet, thinks Paraguay will beat Japan in the World Cup or the other way round, I constructed the Search Phrase "Paraguay will beat Japan"; and another Search Phrase using the opposite.

3. In the first instance, "Paraguay will beat Japan", [ http://www.google.com.sg/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Paraguay+will+beat+Japan ], I got 6,200,000 matches whereas for my second search, "Japan will beat Paraguay" [ http://www.google.com.sg/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Japan+will+beat+Paraguay ], I got 22,700,000 matches. Thus, the Internet believes Japan will beat Paraguay, by a ratio of 3.66. Thus, I would bet on Japan winning and if I were to put odds, I would probably put odds of 1:3.66, assuming that the "wisdom of the crowds" is what matters in making such football odds.

4. For writers and journalists who want an instant, fairly accurate answer to practically ANY survey question they may have in mind, this idea is another use of a search engine. Even for the ordinary layman or student, the search engine, so readily at hand, provides an instant answer to many vexing survey questions that they may need an answer to in a hurry. Mind you, this idea already works without any work on the part of the search engine providers. If these search engine providers were to modify their algorithms or add another service for Instant Surveys, the results will be far more accurate and maybe even give the likes of Gallup a run for their money. TV stations and online news publications may want to add a feature to their offerings by posing important [and even frivolous] survey questions and analyse the results for their readers. It will make for interesting reading.

Robert HO28 Bukit Batok Street 52 #20-03 Guilin ViewSingapore 659248Tel: 68989553CellPhone: 90127417NRIC: S0197974DDear Sirs,A. I would like to bring your attention to criminal election riggings by the LEE Kuan Yew Govt in 1997 [not to mention cheating a landslide election loss into a landslide win in 1963] with probable criminal involvement of his son, now PM LEE Hsien Loong and their relative, DPM WONG Kan Seng, who is also Home Affairs Minister. Election rigging is the most serious crime because a govt that cheated its way to power is illegitimate, without mandate or right to rule and are thus a bunch of crooks stealing power to pay themselves millions and to seize control of billions more [for their own personal interests such as to get a big welcome from countries they promise to invest billions in]. These are serious crimes and befit serious attention from you.B. My eye-witnesses to LEE Kuan Yew, LEE Hsien Loong and WONG Kan Seng election rigging in 1997 is Mr David DUCLOS and his lawyer friend, who has his own law firm in Singapore. Mr DUCLOS is an eurasian catholic, a former Police Inspector and former senior official in the PSA. He described how the two of them inadvertently witnessed election rigging during the ballot counting for the Cheng San GRC Constituency of 5 MP seats, in 1997, taking place in the Anderson Junior College Hall. I quote verbatim his email to me, beginning Para 4:3. When my wife, son and I returned from our yearand a half stay in the UK around 5 Jul 04, Iimmediately emailed my informant for a face to facemeeting in which I could further probe his testimonyas to what he saw that night and early morning of theBallot Counting Centre in Anderson Junior CollegeSchool. He agreed, with some trepidation andreluctance, to meet me in the Cofee Garden of theShangri La hotel, in which we were staying pending thearrival of our belongings and personal effects fromthe UK. My wife, KOH Gek Noi, NRIC S1174495H, a seniormanager in a large MultiNational Company, anaccountant by training and drawing a five-figuresalary, and I met this our informant from about 1pm tonearly 5pm. During this time, my informant related tomy wife and I the events that he and his lawyer friendsaw, that showed beyond doubt that the Government ofLee Kuan Yew rigged the Cheng San GRC election bybringing in fake ballot papers, mostly in favour ofhis PAP party candidates, in 8-10 ballot boxes by 2men dressed in army uniforms.4. I hereby Copy & Paste the entire originalposting I made on 9 May 03 :--RH: Was Cheng San election result rigged? 'Proof'?Robert Ho May 9 2003, 2:56 amNewsgroups: soc.culture.singaporeFrom: h...@pacific.net.sg (Robert Ho)Date: 9 May 2003 02:56:54 -0700Local: Fri, May 9 2003 2:56 amSubject: RH: Was Cheng San election result rigged?'Proof'?The full report can be read in my blog article here:29 October 2006"HOW Y O U CAN PROVE THE SINGAPORE GOVT RIGS ELECTIONS"http://i-came-i-saw-i-solved-it.blogspot.com/search/label/"HOW%20%20%20Y%20O%20U%20%20CAN%20PROVE%20THE%20SINGAPORE%20GOVT%20RIGS%20ELECTIONS"C. The Elections Dept Returning Officers were party to this criminal election rigging because according to election laws, NO MORE BALLOT BOXES MAY BE ADMITTED FOR COUNTING ONCE COUNTING COMMENCES, TO PREVENT FRAUD, OBVIOUSLY. D. This means that the Election Dept, which is within the Prime Minister's Office, was involved in the conspiracy and crime to commit election fraud, all premeditated, since the fake ballot boxes and fake PAP votes must all be prepared beforehand, probably also routinely done in every single General Election, which may explain the statistically, politically and electorally IMPOSSIBLE result of the PAP winning 82 out of 84 seats in Parliament!E. I therefore ask you, as a citizen voter, to investigate possible criminal cheating by the Election Dept, its superiors in the PMO, and the beneficiaries of such criminal cheating, namely LEE Kuan Yew, LEE Hsien Loong and WONG Kan Seng.F. On another note, another insidious Elections Dept practice is a breach of election laws, too. At polling stations, voters queue up, then when their turn comes, they have to hand over their NRICs for identification. Well and good. This could be done silently, to the seated officials, who can then verify the voter's identity and hand him a ballot slip. However, the way the Elections Dept does it, the voter hands over his NRIC, not to the seated officials, but to another official who deliberately stands a distance from the seated officials, who checks the NRIC, THEN SHOUTS OUT TWICE THE NAME AND NRIC NUMBER OF THE VOTER. This not only intimidates the voter, who having been thus identified, has only the solace of a 3-sided cardboard booth to mark his ballot, quivering in fear that he might be observed marking his choice. In fact, if the secret police or ISD had previously installed hidden cameras to record how each voter voted, that is, which party he marked for, this visual footage, together with the audio recording of the voter's name and nric, makes it quick and easy to compile a complete list of HOW EVERY VOTER VOTED, given that each polling stations handles only a fixed, small number of voters, all pre-identified and alloted their particular polling station. Even if the top of the 3-sided cardboard booths are covered, which they are not, cheap can 'see through' the top covering. This makes it difficult for the voting to be secret, even if the voter covers his ballot slip when marking it.G. I suggest you investigate the crimes I have pointed out and give a full report to all Singaporeans as well as why you continue to shout out twice the identify of each voter when it is totally unnecessary. Regards and Thank You,

QUOTE: " You may be interested to know the following:On the polling night of the Cheng San elections I waswith a lawyerfriend - quite prominent- sitting at a coffee shopdirectly oppositethe etrance to the Anderson School where the counringwas to takeplace for Cheng San.Our vantage point was about 20' higher than the roadwhich fronted theschool gates. The school building was another 50metres away from thegates. The gates were closed with two uniformed policeas security. The lights in the open coumpound up to the buildingwere off but thebuilding lights were well on.The counting should have started at about 8pm but wetook ourpositions about 8.30pm.We had one eye on the Anderson School counting centreand another eyeahead of us on the coffeeshop TV monitor perched alittle above ourheads. We could keep watch on the TV to see theresults as they camein and also on the school. At about 10.30pm we noticed a small closed vanapproach the gates andgates opened after some inquiry by the security policeand the smallvan drove straight to the building. This was unusualas the other fewvehicles that entered the building that we saw allturned to the leftupon entering to park. But this van was allowed toproceed to thebuilding entrance. We were interested and watched closely the driver andhis assistant, both in army uniforms, went to the rear doors of thevan and took oursome boxes and proceeded to carry them to thebuilding. They did a fewtrips each with a box. The boxes looked like ballotboxes. We would be about 80 metres away and noted that thevan had nomarkings but was of one colour which in the darknesscould have beengrey. After carrying the boxes in and immediatlyafter, the van droveoff with the same two persons.Nothing untoward occurred further that night. We waited at the spot until all other results were outand announcedbut not Cheng San which completed at about 1.40am orso.We were known to one of the Cheng San opposition partycandidates andwe asked him what took so long as he was in there andalso with thetwo other scrutineers of the opposition party. Thiswas after theyemerged from the counting centre. They were surprised themselves and said that thecounting took sometime because there was recount after recount. But they said that what was stranger was that theywere well into thecounting when the Rreturning officer on duty saidthere were anotherfew boxes - 8-10 more to be opened as they had justarrived. Thisapproximated to the time we saw the van driving up tothe schoolbuilding. The scrutineers and the candidate said they checkedthe unopened boxesand found that the opposition party seals were not inplace.Theyinformed the Returning Officer who then said that theabsence of theopposition seal did not render them invalid as theresponsibility forhaving the seal in posiiton was that of the oppositionparty. The boxes contents (votes) were counted and they notedthat the votescomposition was very much in favour of the PAP unlikethe other boxeswhere they votes more or less balanced out.We drove the two lady scrutineers home and upon oiurinquiries welearned from them in all their innocence that theextra ballot boxeswre only opened and counted after the initial countinghad takenplace. Also that the preponderance of PAP votes inthose boxes werenot following the trend of the earlier countings. Weknow somebody hadbeen had.The Returnoing Officer is duty bound to ensure thatall ballot boxesare in place before allowing counting to commence.
